Well…a deep subject, as someone once said – therefore, I’m not sure we should begin with that thought on Mariah’s page :). Anywho, to quote my youngest, we must begin! We were at a home school meeting tonight and Mariah actually asked her dad NOT to sign her up for anything “smart”. Does that tell you where we are headed this year? She was looking at the basketball table most of the night!
Mariah is in the middle of a huge growth spurt! She is now officially taller than me (I’m 5’8″), and still going. She is also caught in those preteen years of “being grown up” and “who cares about growing up”! Chatter is still her middle name – but LOVE is the core of her being. Just don’t ask her to be on your team if your going to lose – she is all about the winning team – unless UNC or her daddy is involved – then you’ve never met a more staunch fan.
You may think from this post that Mariah isn’t very serious. She actually does give deep thought to many things and given one-on-one time I am always surprised to find out what she has mulled over in her brain. It’s just that her energy is so wide open – it’s hard to pin her down for very long!
When I asked her about what she has learned she shared some valuable and tough lessons for a 12-year-old. She said that she is learning to not to try to be someone else to please other people. Also, that it’s okay to talk about God regardless of what people (friends) think about you or your standards and to try to watch her sarcastic tongue!
Her goals for her 7th grade year are:
*Improve her basketball skills
*Read books that will strengthen her mind
*Accomplish more in cello
*…look at life from a different angle (go figure haha)
*”I want to understand the Thee, Thou, Shalts, Dwelleths, and so forths of the Bible” …she wants to know the Bible more – in Mariah language!
*Talk to more people about God
“For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding: that you might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God; strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, unto all patience and long-suffering with joyfulness;” Colossians 1: 9-11…..Mariah Hope’s Blessing
It’s amazing to me that as Matthew chose these blessings for each girl at their birth – with the exception of Emily’s (hers was when she was 18 months, just before Matthew left for New Zealand and Fiji), how fitting they are for our daughters.
Hope, I know in my bones that despite your greatest efforts, you are going to learn something “smart” this year. The funny thing is, I believe you will even enjoy it!!
Love you my little Hammy,
